Artist Matt Lorentz (who co-produced the AfterCon art show to benefit the Shel Dorf New Talent Encouragement Fund during Comic-Con 2010) just sent us the above picture. Here’s what he wrote about it:

Hi Mike, I ran across this photo today. Shel gave it to me a while back. It’s from the 1974 San Diego Comic-Con. If I remember right, it’s from a Comic-Con dinner. Shel said a fan didn’t have a sheet of paper at the time, so they asked Charles Schulz if he wouldn’t mind signing the roll….

Did you ever hear stories of that bread roll? Shel enlarged a copy of that photo and laminated it for me. He wrote “1974 San Diego Comic Con” on the back of the print.

Mike and Matt, Broken News Alert,
We have been working on the Roll mystery for a few months now. Our pic is very poor. So in a few days we will send you the story. Thanks to you and Matt whth this great quality pic, it will be easier, you Matt and Shel have made it complete. Bizarre coincidence, think not. Zero degrees of separation from El cortez Alumni brothers and sisters!
